Through the unruly medium of clay, I can most intuitively express the precarious quality of the mind and externalize my emotions. Depicting the natural world from an unidealized vantage allows me to celebrate growth and decay with an even hand. I confront the fragility associated with ceramic objects by allowing cracks that materialize to show. Visible imperfections embody the unpredictability of subconscious thought.
With an approach that combines meditation and play, I construct intuitively. As I touch the clay, my hands become the conduit for my internal world. Because clay can be a defiant material, I often build forms, reflect, deconstruct, and then rebuild them. The process beckons a reflective mind state that has become the core of my spiritual practice. The finished pieces serve as offerings or displays of gratitude to the natural world, the astral plane, and the spiritual transformations that grow from the act of surrender.
